Grey’s Anatomy is a great mix between a soap opera and a hospital drama. Every episode includes patient drama as well as the doctor's personal drama. This show is a sexier version of ER. All of the doctors are beautiful and are all having sex with a coworker at the hospital Seattle Grace. The show tugs on your heart strings with the patients stories and life or death scenarios. The main characters include Meradith Grey, who is the narrator (most of the time) and friend to all, Christina who is Meradith’s person, Derek who is Meradith’s “husband”, Callie Torres, Mark Sloan, Richard Webber, Izzie Stevens, Miranda Bailey, and Izzie Stevens. All of these doctors have very intertwined lives and are friends through the rough times at work.
Grey’s Anatomy has been very popular and even created new sayings that are now used by people in their everyday life. They say “seriously?!” a lot during the show and hearing it so much changed the way I used the word. They also created the Mc-isms. The most used are McSteamy and McDreamy. The nicknames and sayings of this show has made a real impact on our culture. The fan base is uncountable and expanding every season. This demonstrates how connected our culture is to television. When we watch a t.v. show and become a fan, that show becomes influential on our culture.
Helping the promotion and popularity of this show is the Internet. Now you can watch all the shows online any time you want. This opens up a new fan base that would originally be missing the show. The improving technology is allowing television series to become more convenient and accessible to the public. This convenience attracts significantly more viewers and therefore has a more significant impact on our culture.
