Girls With Attitudes

Why does it seem like the girls on TV have been getting bitchier and bitchier? Do they have something that drives them to act like this even though they are probably nicer deep down? Do they just do this for show or because it actually gets them on TV? Some of these shows portray these girls and their relationships a certain way. In MTV’s “The Hills” Kristin Cavallari was labeled “the bitch” because she steals other girl’s boyfriends and starts unnecessary drama to break girl’s relationships up. I think that this is all just for show but the fact that she gets a lot of the popularity on the show is troubling.

In “The Jersey Shore”, Sammi “Sweetheart” constantly is a bitch to her boyfriend Ronnie and they are constantly on and off in their relationship. She talked to another guy behind Ronnie’s back prompting a break up at the end of season Aftershow.

These shows portray these relationships very negatively and this causes a culture relationship issue. Young girls and boys who watch these shows see how popular they are and then automatically assume that this is the way relationships are supposed to be because the media is “telling” us that it is. This gives teens a false sense of reality as they think that everyone their age is mean to their friends or boyfriends/girlfriends, or that everyone their age is having sex. This can be seen as a gender issue or even identity because the false identities created on shows such as “The Hills” or “The Jersey Shore” are attempted to be replicated by younger teens in our society.
