Americans love a good old fashion scandal

Tiger Woods is one of the most if not the most successful golfers of all time. He is currently ranked number 1 in the world and he was the highest paid athlete in 2008. In 2008 through endorsements and winnings alone he earned an estimated $110 million. He has won 14 career major golf championships, second all time and 71 PGA tour events, third all time. He was the youngest to 50 wins and he has been the PGA Player of the year a record ten times. One last thing on his resume is that he was involved in a sex scandal that might potentially affect the rest of his life and career.
If you haven’t heard by now over a dozen women have come out and claimed to have had an affair with legendary golfer Tiger Woods. On December 11th Tiger Woods released a press release that stated that some these allegations were in fact true and that he would be taken an indefinite break from the game of golf. Over the past few months the Tiger Woods scandal has been headline news all over the country. People old and young all over the world have been talking about the problems that Woods has had and his marriage whether or not his career will ever rebound from this catastrophic hit. People have watched as his endorsements and star power have fallen over the past few months almost as if it’s a motion picture instead of a human beings livelihood. The Tiger Woods Scandal brings up a good point that Americans love to see sex scandals unfold right in front of their eyes. Cashmore stated that in today’s culture, celebrity sex scandals are either met with indifference or increased interest in celebrity. As famous as Tiger Woods was at one point it has hard to argue the fact that he is not more famous now. Sure, people may not look at him the same but almost everybody knows who Tiger Woods is. I guess in a way Americans are so drawn to celebrity sex scandals because it makes the people we admire so much look human. We realize that they have faults just like we do and we want to know every single detail about where they might have messed up. We also like to read about controversy and there are few things more controversial than a juicy sex scandal. This is the age of the internet and the tabloid and through each scandals like Tiger Woods’ are read and diagnosed.
