Here’s The Situation: Little Jersey Shore Is a Big Online Hit

The cast of the popular-almost-overrated, love-to-hate MTV reality show Jersey Shore is getting shown up online by the juice box-drinking, fist-pumping, club-hopping, over-tanned little guidos and guidettes who star in Little Jersey Shore.

The online spoof comes from Babelgum and Landline TV, and includes adorably orange children reprising the roles of everyone from Pauly D and Snooki to JWoww, Ronnie, Sammy and The Situation. The end result is a hilarious parody that’s already garnered more than one million views in just five days for the relatively small online comedy shop.

Popular culture is ever changing and audiences are always demanding new fresh ideas to satisfy their appetite. Although I personally find this extremely amusing and adorable, it is not groundbreaking or anything. The reality show sensation's finale was on this past Thursday night, and MTV is tapping into the hardcore Twitter buzz surrounding its success. Many other series have done the same mock trailers.

There have been countless controversies about the MTV reality TV show since it was first aired. Issues seem to always relate to race, culture, and sex. One could definitely argue that this is a racist show that depicts stereotypical characteristics of Italian Americans. But we have to admit that even just in everyday life, some of the funniest jokes are racial jokes. MTV is known for pushing the limits, and it knows well enough that its target audience won’t care less if it touches on these topics. They might be put under the spot by some critics, scholars and etc., but after all, all it needs is its viewers and those advertisers. They have also done incredible jobs to promote the TV show. Almost any social environment I’ve been to in the past few months, Jersey Shore would come up at least once during conversations. Mock trailers like the Little Jersey Shore is very cute and brilliant. While making a mockery of the real show, it grasped some of the major characteristics and elements and portrayed them in a lighthearted way. It shows how popular culture could be presented and represented and yet act as complimentary of each other.
