Is Keith Olberman a Liberal Bill O'Reilly

The link above shows a recent segment on the Daily Show which mocks Keith Olberman's tirade against Scott Brown, the new Republican Senator from Massachusetts. In the world of cable news Bill O'Reilly holds a special spot in that he attracts the more viewers for his show than any other news program. However, Fox News is generally the target of ridicule for its more than obvious conservative bias. A blog called oreilly-sucks.com is maintained solely for the purpose of tracking the inequities and bias that are transmitted daily via Bill O'Reilly and his political commentary. I mention Bill O'Reilly in a discussion about Keith Olbermann because he is generally seen as the antithesis of O'Reilly. Olbermann's liberal bias is generally not as strong as the conservative lean of his Fox News counterpart and he was generally portrayed as the voice of reason and moderate thought. However, a recent editorial monologue in which Olbermann calls Scott Brown an irresponsible sexist who supports domestic violence has drawn the ire of many satirists including Jon Stewart.

The progression of liberals into this mode of journalism where they use sensationalism and take examples out of context (i.e. Scott Brown swore at high school students) is generally thought to be reserved for conservative media outlets. However this new representation of Olbermann casts both liberals and conservatives as somewhat extremist. People like Jon Stewart who make fun of both sides of the political spectrum seem to represent what most of America thinks even tho satire itself is seen as a liberal form of media. Nevertheless the inclusion of Keith Olbermann on the Daily Show is a great indicator that when it comes to political debates the power of media is really undeniable in that people are force fed the opinions of the network and its anchors in the form of news.
