First Male Gigolo

Recently, Nevada has allowed for a local brothel to hire the first
legal gigolo in the United States. The man is a college drop-out
and former member of the U.S. Marines. Nevada is the only state that has legalized brothels. I think this is because most people do not find it to be socially acceptable to attend such places. Nevada also houses the city of Las Vegas which seems to promote other promiscuous morals that are not found to be acceptable with the other states in our country. I wonder if the legalization of a gigolo will cause more acceptance with the
people in our country or make it worse. One issue that has risen is the fact that this gigolo has refused to accept male clients. His co-workers (all female) say that he is being discriminatory towards men. I think that if he is going to provide a service, and be paid by an employer, he should have to accept any client the employer asks him to accept. I understand that he may not personally have a preference for men but his employer should
provide their clients with the service they wish for if they want to reach maximum profit. Like Cashmore discusses, the media feeds on any type of sex scandal. In this case, the idea of brothels as a whole is a type of scandal to most of the country. Therefore, media is continuously discussing the first male gigolo through the news, blogs, and magazines. I think that it is a bad idea to continuously discuss this topic. I personally do not agree with the legalization of brothels due to the spread of disease and my own personal morals. Cashmore also says that usually, the attention given to situations such as this, are positive for the fame of the celebrity being discussed. I think that the amount of attention this story is receiving will most definitely help this gigolo’s business. Do you think the media should be contributing to this cause or should issues like this simply be left alone?
