Many of us have seen multiple acne medication company commercials and how each of the companies advertises. Some show the differences in their products from their competitor, in order to seperate themselves and be that much more appealing to buyers. Although each commercial is different, what is not different is the tactic of using celebrity faces and guests to promote their product.
One main company, Proactiv, has used pretty celebrity faces such as Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Vanessa Willams to somewhat brainwash viewers and potential buyers into actually wanting the product. When the audience sees these huge actresses and singers raving about Proactiv, most people will get the immediate thought that if they use this product their face as well will become clear and "movie star-like." These celebrities hosts are actually a very effective retail method, as well as they are for any other product. Besides Proactiv, brands such as Neutrogena and Skin ID are just a couple of acne medication companies using celebrities to sell their product.
It is not just on acne care where celebrities are advertising products, it is everywhere! From clothes to computers celebrities are used to represent a product and enforce it. With the culture today, the normal person is going to buy into these commercials. If a young teen-age girl struggling with acne needed a solution, and saw a flawless Jessica Simpson saying she got rid of her acne by using Proactiv, then of course the teen is going to want to buy the product. With our society being so focused on the outer image and wanting to be perfect, acne is just a speedbump in the path to perfection. Showing stars who once had acne and now do not seemingly because of the product attracts all ages of audiences who are looking to get rid of their flaws.
Although some people might have not realized it by now, but these big name brand acne medications such as Proactiv contain nothing different then a cheaper product( Except for the celebrities promises and good looks of course). Proactiv, just contains a commongly used ingredient in most acne medicines, Benzoyl Peroxide. So why do most people struggling with acne prefer the more expensive Proactiv over the much cheaper no name brand? The celebrities of course. Hollywood sells, and when the media and us viewers see these celebrities and envy them, they could tell us to go spend hundreds of dollars and we would follow the command like a well trained puppy.
