The Real World is a television show on MTV that puts seven “random” people into a house and force them to live together for a certain period of time. I put the word random in quotations because even though it might be a little random, there are obviously some tendencies that most viewers have probably noticed over the years.
On almost every season, there is only one black guy. I don’t understand how for all the seasons Real World has been on television, which is already up in the 20s by now, they can pick seven “random” people and only come up with one black person. I believe maybe one or two seasons out of the twenty something seasons there may have been two black people, but I find it ridiculous. Why can’t they seem to cast more black people for the show?
Another tendency that the Real World casting crew seems to have is the casting of one gay person on every season. There are almost never two gay people in one season, and that is also another problem that bothers me. While all of the straight guys and girls on the show can hook up with each other in the house, the one gay person must resort to going to some bar or club and pick up somebody. I feel that it is not very fair for that person to have to do that while everyone else has it easier. On this years season, Real World DC, there actually technically is not a gay person on the show. There is, however, a bisexual man, Mike, who proves his bisexual-ness within the first couple of episodes by hooking up with a girl who lives in the house and a gay man who he piks up at a bar they go to.
This season, on Real World DC, the cast members of the show made it very obvious to the viewers about these tendencies when multiple members of the show, after first entering the house, ran around yelling “Where is the black guy?” and “Where is the gay guy?”. Even they knew that it was almost a guarantee that they would both be on the show.
