Nip/Tuck- How plastic surgeons really live

Nip Tuck, a hit TV series on the FX network channel is now going on its 7th season. The drama, which some might see as too provocatice or harsh for primetime broadcasting, is able to spark controversy and give twists and turns with every episode. The two plastic surgeons Dr. Sean McNamara and Dr. Christian Troy are the main characters of the show. They go through life's dilemmas and obstaxles every episode, mostl revolving around a current patient. The bizarre cases the patients have, ranging from simple surgeries to the strange ones such as getting breasts removed, are always sure to entertain and intrigue viewers.
While Dr. Troy being the cocky, arrogant, and self-centered doctor who has cheated on his wives and hooked up with multiple patients- and Dr. McNamara being the more modest, resposible surgeon who has his own mid life crisis and family problems, the duo of "good doctor" "bad doctor" attributes show how society today deals with its ovsession with being perfect. aS Freccero discussed in her article the issues with who has power in society and why these individuals have such power, both surgeons on Nip Tuck havce power issues. Dr. Troy is such a cokcy man and thinks just because he can tell a woman at a bar he can make her perfect, she will sleep with him. The skilled hands in plastic surgery serves as his power trip and he knows that b ecause of such an obsession of perfection people have he has an upper hand in culture. Although many patients come in their studio looking to fix an imperfection, there are also pepole that come in wanting to alter their bodies in what would be considered in this society as imperfect. In many cases, paatients always seem to have some social dysfunction with them. The pressure ofbeing perfect in society gts to them in which then the plot in the episode thickens, and the awkward, provocative, and dramatic scenes flow in to make the show quite addicting.
Nip Tuck, being as popular and farfetched as it is, always seem to touch on popular culture issues in each episode. With power being the most evident issue throughout the show, it just hwos how people tihnk our society is and how we are so focused on the outer beauty rather than inner. The surgeons have the poewr, and when the patients come in to alter themselves, they do so for the reason to have power of their own, and being perfect or beautiful is the only way to be beautiful in our society.
