Movie Theatres are going back to the basics...
Movie theatres are a staple of our countries popular culture. Years ago movie theatres were a place where communities gathered for all types of entertainment. As we have discussed, technology advancements in television, such as Tivo, and all other recording devices have led to the downfall of movie theatres. Many movie theatres are struggling financially because it is so much cheaper and easier for people to watch a movie from the convenience of their home. In order to make a comeback movie theatres are re-examining their roots in hopes to become a community place again. It is becoming all the rage for movie theatres to play more then just movies. They play the Saturday night opera, golden globes, grammys, and oscars. By playing live events on such big screens they are able to draw in a bigger crowd then they would by just playing a movie. People know that they can watch a movie on demand in a month for less then a quarter of the price. Many movie theatres are also starting to show sporting events such as NFL games and college basketball, which brings all of the avid fans in the community together. For awards ceremonies and sporting events the atmosphere of the movie theatre is more relaxed and people talk and eat more. People in our culture like to attend special events at movie theatres like this now because it brings out the whole community. Many movie theatres are also creating themed nights, where they’ll play an old movie from a different generation, and people will come dressed in attire from that time period. Movie theatres hold a strong significance in the history of our countries popular culture. Adding more events onto the big screen for people of the community to come out and watch has saved the business of many movie theatres. For a while people were disgusted at the price of going to see a movie and popularity of the movie theatre experience died down. The new community events are all held at a cheaper price because it doesn’t cost the movie theatre as much to play a live event. Going out to the movies is now easier for families to make a family event, and they can go with neighbors and friends. In a culture where technology has taken our lives, and people can’t walk down the street without texting or browsing the internet, it is nice to know that movie theatres aren’t dying out, but doing what they can to stay in business and bring communities together.
