Kid's televison shows-too serious with the issues?

For girls and boys alike, especially those of us who are all grown up, we remember a time when life was much simpler mainly because we did not base our happiness on what the opposite sex thought of us. In fact, in the fourth grade, I still recall boys having cooties. Now as the generations have changed and kids are growing up faster and faster-having sex earlier, getting pregnant earlier, or even just getting their heart broken earlier; people must blame culture for this and in some ways, they are right to do so. Kids today are surrounded by technology, computers, TVs, and cellphones to be precise. All of these things-potential ways to start drama with the opposite sex. Television shows are the research part of this sequence. Kids for the most part can pick the shows they want to watch and become obsessed with. When I was in grade school, the cool shows were All That and Legends of the Hidden Temple, both of which were comedy and action based shows and both of which handled no business in the art of love and relationships. Today the cool shows for kids seem to be Degrassi and Secret life of the American Teenager, both of which are drama based and are all up in the business of love, and relationships, some more serious then others (hence the Secret life.. which is based around a young teenager who has become pregnant.) These television shows are the research kids have to live their own lives by. These popular teen drama type shows make kids believe they should be in relationships earlier, having sex earlier and start being mean to the kid you think will be weird in high school. Then, kids today have the internet and the friend networking systems that were not around when I was younger. Facebook, twitter and MySpace are the "safe" places where kids can try out drama and try out how to make someone else's life miserable without having to face them person to person. Facebook is a great place to start rumors, make and break relationships with people, make fun of others and so on..all without having to talk to any actual person. The next step is the cellphones which most kids today around the seventh or eighth grade have. The text message rumor of break up is the best form of communication and drama for this generation of kids and teens. It is the easiest way to do anything and it is the form of communication that seemst to be taken the most serious with these kids. The latest travesty is that kids are sending dirty pictures and videos over the cellphones. Not only did I not have a cellphone until I was a sophomore in highschool, but it most definitely did not have a camera of camcorder on it. It is pretty funny to me when I turn on the television to a channel like MTV which is now running commericals about the dangers of sending nude pictures or bad texts over the phone. Then, right after this commerical is run, the Beyonce-Lady Gaga video "Video Phone" comes on. This entire song is about sending dirty videos over the cellphone. Thank you MTV for the mixed messages! When it comes to MTV shows and videos, someone in their twenties knows these concepts should under no circumstances be taken seriously, but for the majority of MTV viewers (which are adolescents) these mixed messages and racy trash shows can be extremely dangerous.
