Almost every person who owns a television knows who Tiger Woods is. Even if they do not watch golf specifically, they have probably seen his face on a Gillette commercial, or Gatorade commercial, or Nike commercial, or countless other brands. Tiger made a name for himself by becoming the most successful golfer on the planet. With 56 PGA Tour wins, which includes 14 major championship wins, since 2000 alone, Tiger has been untouched by his fellow competitors. He is known for being cool as a cucumber out on the course, which gives him the mental advantage over his opponents.
Over the past couple months, however, Tiger has felt the pressure like never before in any of his golf tournaments. He was caught having an affair one night after crashing into a tree in a driveway. His career has now been temporarily terminated. He has stepped away from the game of golf indefinitely.
Besides just that, many of his sponsors have pulled away from Tiger Woods and have stopped showing commercials that he appears in. The brands that Tiger Woods represented are now in a world of hurt due to the fact that Tiger greatly affected these brands and their sales.
The Professional Golfers’ Association as well is in a lot of trouble. For over the past decade now, Tiger Woods has been golf. Mass crowds would attend almost any tournament he was in, even if all they saw him do was take a sip of water from a water fountain. Also, almost all television viewers would tune in to the golf channel to see how badly Tiger Woods was beating the other golfers. Now those mass crowds and television viewers are going to be in much smaller numbers without Tiger Woods around to put on a show.
I feel that after some time, Tiger Woods will make a return to the game of golf and, even with this minor blemish on his career, will continue to break records and make history, and be remembered as the greatest golfer to ever walk on Earth.
