Vick Gets Off Easy

In July 2007 Michael Vick and friends were charged with conspiring to engage in competitive dog fighting, procuring and training pit bulls for fighting, and conducting the enterprise across state lines. Before this happened Michael Vick was an all star Quarterback that many young football players looked up to, as are many professional athletes. Vick faced up to six years in a federal prison if he was convicted of the crime. When the police searched the yard they found upwards of 70 dead dogs and several mistreated pit bulls. There was also statements saying that Vick had helped drown and hang dogs when they did not fight well.

Do you know how much time Vick spent in jail?

He received 23 months in jail and then decided to go to a drug treatment facility. He barely spent anytime in jail and even the drug treatment facility was minimum security. Also, The NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him from the NFL without pay indefinitely. He said that Vick would need to show true remorse for what he did to those dogs. Dogs are helpless and will do pretty much whatever you teach them and will act according to how you train them. A person killing animals is the sign to a start of a serial killer like "Dexter Morgan". I personally do not think he showed any remorse for the crime and should have spent many years in prison. The man killed 70+ dogs because they did not fight well. He should never be forgiven for this heinous crime.

I am not sure that he got off as easy as he did because he is a professional football player but I feel like it had something to do with it. I think that many people have put this behind them and are happy he is back in the league. People have done the same thing with Kobe Bryant who was charged with Rape and even though he was not convicted I still think he did it, but because he is one of the best NBA players and people look passed it.

I do not think that Vick learned his lesson with a few months in a minimum security prison and showed remorse by saying he was sorry. In todays world of professional sports we all look up to our favorite player and aspire to be like them and even when they do something stupid and unforgivable we forgive them anyways just because they are a good athlete. What Vick did was unforgivable in my eyes and I can not help but think that he killed several dogs for no reason. You have to be careful who you let your kids look up to these days or at least not let them watch the news or ESPN ever just to find out that their hero killed someone.
