Internet could be a very effective medium for disseminating sales promotions for businesses. They are now online coupons, blogs that write about sales promotion and sweepstakes, online broadcasting and social networks. Many companies are moving promotions online because it has become an advertising platform that creates more engaging and interactive sales promotions where marketers could get accurate and instant feedbacks, which could help them to determine the effectiveness of its promotions. Social media like Facebook and MySpace have become popular web destinations for younger demographics. While some advertisers have placed ads on these sites, others are more wary. There are both pros and cons of advertising on social networks. The Internet could be a useful tool as a part of the integrated marketing strategies. It can target very specific groups of individuals with a minimum waste of coverage. Therefore messages can be designed to appeal to the specific needs and wants of the target audience. It also increases the potential for customer involvement and satisfaction and almost immediate feedback. The online community helps to spread words of the products/services that can easily generate sales potentials. However, there are also several cons of advertising on social networks. Due to increase popularity, advertisers are now facing the problem of cluttering even on social networks. It also creates an annoyance attitude because most people on those networks are merely looking to socialize in which may lead to irritation. While the community helps to spread positive word of mouth about the products, it also spreads negative image of the products if anything goes wrong.
